Finally the strings have cone to be woven into the tapestry that is the end note for series 5.This is a continuation of the Pandorica Opens. Like series 4 it starts out with the potential end of the universe. I swear it happens so often in who I wonder how the universe can still be around at all.
What Steve Moffat does with the first half of the episode is take the sheer possibilities of time travel and put them to work. They show how the Doctor gets out of the Pandorica before he gets out of the Pandorica and then half way through shows the same scenes but how they got there. This could give someone a headache if you are not careful but it is handled well. It reminds me what has been happening to the Doctor and River Song since she was introduced.
So here are the cliff notes, the Doctor gets out of the Pandorica and uses the vortex manipulator aka wrist style time travel device to move ahead 1894 years. Amy was put inside the Pandorica to wait until they could get a living sample of her DNA from the Mini-Amy (the Kid version) to make her undead. Rory, her boyfriend who was a bot and killed her at the end of the last episode stays with the Pandorica to protect it for 2000 years.
What they thought was the dun was really the Tadris as it exploded. They figure out that the Pandorica holds a reset button and smash that into the Tardis mid explosion to reset the universe. The cracks start to close the Doctor says goodbye to Mini-Amy and disappears. She wakes up and it’s her wedding day, her parents are there and she remembers everything.
Then at the wedding reception she remembers the Doctor and he is brought back. At the very end the Doctor is about to leave but instead of one companion he gets two and they are Amy and Rory the newlyweds who are off for new adventures in a brand new universe.
Hmm I am interested to see what happens next and although there was some Deus Exmachina involved and some plot holes you could drive a truck through it but I can look past that and I say hurry up Christmas, let’s see what you have.
