Destroyed #Apple Products – Good art or bad?

Posted by on Nov 23, 2010 in Apple, Art | 2 comments

The destruction of Apple products will be sad for the followers of the cult of Jobs but I do think that it is interesting to see because if this was any other brand most would probably not care but because of the emotional connection between Apple and it’s consumers the destruction seems more wasteful. It is a reflection of how these devices are becoming indispensable to our everyday lives.

I would love to see a video of how he went to destroy each product and get it to look the way they do. That is how I see this as art and I think people’s reactions to it is where the real story lies because each of us will have have a different view of it based on your own opinions of the brand itself.

The Highlights from Google #Play at the Guggenheim #yay

This is why I love youtube for stuff like this. I wonder of Google should make basic templates to allow simplistic versions of this type of flash integration for user created channels that get past a specific viewer or subscriber count. It seems kind of haphazard but maybe just maybe there is a method to the madness. But still I love this stuff.

A Portfolio Made with Videos for Contests?? (A good or bad idea…hmmm)

Posted by on Aug 4, 2010 in Advertising, Art, Videos | 0 comments

I was reading on Mashable that Amazon is having a contest where they ask their audience to create their own Kindle commercial. It is in celebration of version 3.0 of the Kindle device which is now only $139 US compared to what it cost before. I love these types of things because you can see how really passionate people are and can see how unique and different the content is from each other. As someone who has tried (and failed) to get into advertising, if I was a creative guy I would make it my mission to look for these contests and do them all.

The goal is to win and create a unique portfolio. It would be a portfolio created for contest entries. One I think I would be more fun and two your work would get seen my more people. So when you go to an agency and they ask to see your portfolio most of it will be made with a focus on being shared especially the video. Now I know it wouldn’t be possible to do this for everything like print, web and so on but you can extend what you do for these ad creation contests and take those basic ideas into the other mediums that way you have a consistent theme around the ideas you create.

I am thinking about it, at least it wouldn’t be a normal book and something that maybe would catch the eye of a creative director or two.
