Is an MBA worth it??? [infographic]

So what is the worth of an MBA today? Here is an infographic that shows a snapshot of it could be worth. It is my view that it is still a valuable learning tool that can open new doors but that new doors are opening all the time due to the changes in technology.

This pace of change means that MBA may open more ($$$) doors but that there are new paths to the same place opening and closing all the time. Just because of how many people have access to postgrad education programs for an MBA means that while still very valuable, an MBA today versus an MBA from 20 years ago are miles apart in terms of what they can get you.

Spending $120k on anything even an education feels like such a waste and such a shadow on the person that even though more people than ever could get an MBA the economic conditions could really shrink that audience back down. Consider that this infographic says that 64% of CEO’s don’t have an MBA should tell all of us that it isn’t the only way to the pot of gold today and that is a good thing.

They say that the cost of starting a business is only a fraction of the cost of an MBA which means you could start several businesses for what it would cost to do an MBA. If that is true I rather take option one instead. At least you will learn hands on, beyond theory by getting dirty instead of having it all come from a textbook.

At the same time it still means that nearly a third of CEO’s have one. It is also worth noting that not all MBA programs are created equal and when you compare an MBA from a state University and another from the Ivy league, you already know which one is better. Welcome to a new age, for good or ill.
